Finding an "approved buyer"
In preparation for our move to Florida, there was a notion that we
could sell this company, name, inventory , and good will, with the Service
Center remaining in tact, in the Great Lakes region. There was a problem,
with interested parties, meeting approval of exclusive Rotax distributor,
Kodiak, Res. LTD. Objections were made regarding the degree of technical
qualifications of individual potential buyers. One such company, well know
throughout the UL world, located in Michigan, is Sky Sports. The
principal of that company had been, and still is, actively involved in
UL aviation both as a pilot and merchant for about twenty years. It just
didn't seem to Kodiak, that he quite met the grade for technical expertise
that would be needed to replace existing ownership of Green Sky Adventures,
Inc.
So that's how we ended up throwing in the Rotax Service Center towel,
and heading south, to function as a Repair Station and promote our other
products. ...You know, develop a web presence, and build from there.
Kodiak was kind enough to buy back our complete new inventory at a
slight reduction from original cost. That truly was a noble gesture, that
does not happen very often in these situations.
...Interesting how things work out. Within a short period of our decision, another company known as LEAF, Inc. was up for grabs, and had been for a while, following the untimely and sad loss of Bill Raisner. You certainly know the end of this story. That Service Center was purchased by a bright, ambitious, businessman, (owner of Wag Aero) pilot, whose field of expertise was, shall we say in a galaxy at the opposite end of the universe from Ultralight and light experimental aircraft.
...Go figure.
